Hula Hooping

What is the hula hooping exercise trend and what are the benefits?

We’ve all been there…It’s the end of a long day and you’ve lost the motivation to put your workout gear on and drive to the local gym. Not forgetting that your favourite show is about to start, and you don’t want to miss it.

Fear not, our prayers have been answered with the new hula hooping exercise trend. Remember when you were a child, and you’d spend hours in the garden trying to crack hula hooping?

Well good news…the hula hooping exercise that has risen in popularity over the past year is exactly that. The even better news? It has tonnes of benefits for our bodies AND we can do it whilst we catch up on our favourite show or listening to a new podcast episode!

So, what are the benefits?

You burn calories

Research has shown that hula hooping with a weighted hoop can help to burn as many calories as other dance activities including belly dancing, salsa and even ballroom.

On average, hula hooping for 30 minutes can help to burn 165 calories for women and 200 calories for men.

Improved core strength

When you first start hula hooping, you may struggle to keep the hoop up for a long period of time. Consistency is key with this exercise and if you stick with it, you’ll soon be a hooping pro.

Whilst hooping, you use core stomach muscles as well as your back muscles and like with any exercise, the more you use these muscles, the stronger you’ll become.

Using these muscles also helps to burn fat around these areas and as hula hooping for a long period of time begins to feel easy, you can swap your hoop for a heavier weighted one.

You can also use your hula hoop around your arms to give your upper arms a workout and help to tone these areas. You can find loads of different weighted hula hooping technique videos across social media or YouTube with a quick search.

Good cardio health

Looking after our heart should always be at the forefront of our minds, it’s what keeps us healthy and needs to be looked after with great care.

Hula hooping is a great form of exercise that elevates your heart rate and improved your cardio health and improve your level of fitness.

Good cardio health helps to fight against the risk of heart problems including heart attacks, strokes, and diseases.
